Vijaya Gurunatha “Vijay” Sethupathi, is an Indian film actor, producer, Lyricist, Playback singer and Dialogue writer who works mostly in Tamil films. He was nicknamed as Makkal Selvan.
Vijay was born on 16th January 1978 in Rajapalayam, Tamilnadu India. Sethupathi was born and raised in Rajapalayam until he moved to Chennai in Class six. He lived in Ennore located in northern part of chennai. He went to MGR Higher Secondary School in Kodambakkam and Little Angels Mat HR Sec School. He was a “below-averaged” student from beginning of his school days and he was not at all interested in sports nor extra-curricular activities.
After Completing his graduation he went to Dubai for a job but was not happy with his job and so he returned to India in 2003. Sethupathi was one of the actors among several others who went to director selvaraghavan’s to auditions for his gangster film Pudhupettai in 2006 and it was he who was picked to play Dhanush’s friend in the film.
After doing lots of side roles and he finally appeared in his very first lead role in Ramasamy’s film Thenmaku Paruvakaatru in 2011. The following year, marked as a decisive point in Sethupathi’s career point. All those three releases in 2012 were commercial and critical successes, which made in a rise in his fan following.
In 2013, he was first seen in the crime comedy Soodhu kavvum that saw him playing the role of a forty-year-old kidnapper. The film opened to extremely positive reviews and has become a huge success at the box-office.
In 2014, his films Rummy and Pannaiyarum Padminiyum were released both directed by debutants. The films opened to predominantly positive reviews from Critics and is the only Tamil film which has been selected to be screened at the 19th International Film festival of kerala. The same year Akhaada was being dubbed in Tamil as Edakku by its makers, to profit from Sethupathi’s popularity in Tamil nadu.
