Steve McQueen was born on March 24, 1930, in Beech Grove, Indiana. His childhood life was quite peopled with sorrowful moments. When Steve was merely a baby, his father left the family. His mother, Julian, was an alcoholic. For this reason, Steve spent most of his time with his grandparents in Slater, Missouri.
