Karen was attacked, raped, and eventually murdered before police could arrive and arrest those responsible.

Kelsey was deeply affected by Karen’s death and its aftermath; later speaking about guilt feelings as well as struggles with grief, addiction and depression as time progressed. Kelsey never fully got over losing Karen; even referring to it as “ancient grief that is forever fresh”.

After Karen died, Kelsey went through an agonizing period. Partly due to his pain, alcohol and drug abuse were commonplace – as were thoughts of suicide; loss was deeply painful for Kelsey; it impacted every aspect of his life for many years afterward; Kelsey has spoken openly about how difficult it was to accept losing his sister and how this experience has formed his personality and decisions since.

Kelsey found an avenue of healing despite the difficulties, forgiving Karen’s murderer Freddie Glenn while still opposing parole for him. Kelsey believed allowing Glenn out would dishonor Karen’s memory; justice had to be served regardless of any forgiveness extended toward Glenn for committing crimes like this one.

Kelsey’s Family: Leaving Behind A Strong Legacy

Kelsey never forgets Karen Grammer; in fact, he named his daughter Spencer Karen Grammer to keep her memory alive. Kelsey expresses his affection for Karen often when speaking about how much it meant to him.
