José Vicente Ferrer de Otero y Cintrón, known to the world as José Ferrer, was born on 8 January 1912 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Born into a family that valued education and culture, he spent his early years studying architecture at Princeton University in the United States. But the stage seemed to have other plans for him.

His first major success came on Broadway. Ferrer became known for incredible performances in classic plays, especially his role as Cyrano de Bergerac. His portrayal of Cyrano, the romantic hero with a big heart and an even bigger nose, earned him vast accolades.
