Ryan Murphy was born in Palos Heights, Illinois. When he was young, his family moved to Jacksonville, Florida, and there he went to Bolles School. This is where Ryan started swimming competitively and began his journey.
High School Swimming
At Bolles School, Ryan was incredible! He broke 26 National Age Group Records in many different swimming events. Some of these records include the 100-yard and meter backstrokes, 200-yard and meter backstrokes, 200-yard IM (Individual Medley), 400-yard IM, 200-meter butterfly, and 50-yard freestyle.
You know? He still holds eight of these records even today!
College Swimming
After high school, Ryan went to the University of California, Berkeley. He swam for the California Golden Bears men’s swimming and diving team, often called “Cal.”
During college, Ryan won eight NCAA individual national championships in the 100-yard and 200-yard backstrokes from 2014 to 2017. He set records in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:36.77 and in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 44.17.
International Career
After academic success, he went on to represent the United States in many international competitions, including the Olympic Games!
