Early Life and Family
Spencer Grammer was born October 9th 1983 in Los Angeles to actor Kelsey Grammer and singer/dancer/actress Doreen Alderman (nee Alderman). Spencer has strong ties with her father’s side of the family – his career spans many hit TV shows and movies including Star Trek V: The Final Battle starring Kelsey himself as well as being named after Karen Grammer (her paternal aunt who tragically was murdered in 1975) who she shares a birthday with.
Spencer was raised in a large family. Her paternal half-siblings included three half-sisters: Greer, Mason and Faith as well as three half-brothers (Jude, Gabriel and James) She also has Madison who comes from her mother’s side of the family. Even with such a large clan around her, Spencer managed to maintain strong bonds with all of them despite this large familial clan.
Education
Spencer took pride in her studies and pursued her artistic passions with diligence. She began acting classes at Marymount Manhattan College in New York City before going on to graduate from Columbia University School of the Arts with an MFA degree in directing in 2023 – giving her both acting experience as well as background knowledge for film and TV work.
Career Highlights
Spencer Grammer has enjoyed an accomplished TV and film career. Her first appearance came as a child on Cheers, in an uncredited role alongside her father who played Frasier Crane; but her big break came later with ABC Family show Greek where she played Casey Cartwright (Casey Cartwright for short). Her performance garnered much praise and earned Spencer national acclaim.
Spencer made her acting debut in 2013 by appearing in a remake of Ironside from the 1960s television show, however it was cancelled after only three episodes aired and gave Spencer an opportunity to showcase her acting skills.
Spencer is best known for voicing Summer Smith on the animated series Rick and Morty since 2013, quickly becoming a fan favorite character. Spencer will continue voicing Summer on future seasons of Rick and Morty.
Spencer has also appeared in other TV shows and movies, such as As the World Turns (2006) as Dr. Lucy Montgomery and Tell Me a Story (2018) as Beth Miller; in 2022 she also made an appearance as Michelle Conway in The 12 Days of Christmas Eve.
Spencer is not limited to acting. As part of her MFA program at Columbia University, she wrote and directed a short film called Confetti; an impressive demonstration of Spencer’s diverse talents within entertainment.

Personal Life
Spencer’s personal life has been just as intriguing. On February 11, 2011 she married firefighter James Hesketh; the two welcomed their son together later that October 2011. However, the marriage ended up dissolving in 2017 due to their respective jobs being incompatible.
Spencer remains close to her family despite her personal challenges, especially her relationship with Kelsey and their shared enjoyment of puzzles; Spencer has passed on this hobby to her son.
