Early Life and Family
Jermaine La Jaune Jackson was born on December 11, 1954, in Gary, Indiana. He is the fourth son of Katherine Jackson and Joe Jackson. Jermaine comes from a large family of nine siblings. His sisters and brothers are Rebbie, Jackie, Tito, La Toya, Marlon, Michael, Randy, Janet, and half-sister Joh’Vonnie.
The Jackson family was strict but affectionate. The children were made to work hard and rehearse daily by their father, Joe. This was what helped the family achieve success.

The Jackson 5
Jermaine began his career with The Jackson 5. He was the co-lead vocalist together with his brother Michael. He also played the bass guitar for the group.
The Jackson 5 joined Motown Records in 1969. They rose to stardom with hits such as:
I Want You Back
ABC
I’ll Be There
The band’s talents and energy made them one of the biggest acts around. Jermaine’s silky voice contributed to their sound.
Most of the Jackson brothers quit Motown in 1975 and signed with Epic Records. They renamed themselves as The Jacksons. Jermaine remained behind at Motown. One of the reasons was that he married Berry Gordy’s daughter, Hazel Gordy.
Despite this, Jermaine reunited with his brothers later. He toured with them at the Motown 25 TV special in 1983 and also joined the Victory tour.
Solo Career
Jermaine also established a successful solo career. He had his first solo hit in 1972 with Daddy’s Home. He later enjoyed success with hits such as Let’s Get Serious in 1980. The song received a Grammy nomination. A huge hit, Do What You Do, was recorded in 1984.
Jermaine also collaborated with other artists. He sang with Whitney Houston and produced Switch’s R&B band songs. These collaborations demonstrated his talent not only as a vocalist but also as a producer.

Personal Life
Jermaine’s personal life has frequently been highlighted in the press. He has been wedded three times. His first wife was Hazel Gordy whom he wedded in 1973. Subsequently, he wedded Alejandra Genevieve Oaziaza, who had also had an affair with his brother Randy. His third wedding was with Halima Rashid in 2004.
Jermaine has seven kids: Jermaine Jr., Autumn, Jeremy, Jourdynn, Jaafar, Donte, and Jermajesty. A few of his kids have joined him in the music industry.
Relationship with Janet Jackson
Janet Jackson is Jermaine’s little sister. She became the most successful female artist in history. Jermaine was already a household name when Janet began her music career. His success, as well as Michael’s, encouraged her to persist in the music.
Janet also had her own experience. She got married three times — to James DeBarge, René Elizondo Jr., and Wissam Al Mana. She has one son, Eissa Al Mana. Although there were ups and downs, the Jackson family remained close, particularly during bad times such as the death of Michael in 2009 and that of Tito in 2024.
Books and Other Work
In 2011, Jermaine authored a book entitled Michael: You Are Not Alone. This book contained reminiscences of his brother Michael’s life and career. He also made appearances in reality television shows regarding the Jackson clan. These productions kept him tied to fans even beyond music.
