A Sad and Heartbreaking Story
Grace came too early. She was due in March 2024. But something went astray. On November 8, 2023, Grace was born at only 21 and a half weeks. That is extremely premature, and unfortunately, she did not live.
Before the birth, Kelsey and Hafþór observed that their baby was not moving much. They were in the hospital. Doctors informed them that Grace’s heartbeat had ceased. It was a very sad time for the family.
A Special and Loved Baby
Although Grace had only been with them for a short period of time, she made a considerable impression. Her parents said that she was “absolutely beautiful”. She had blonde eyelashes and eyebrows, and a small smile.
They told of being thankful to hold her. They spoke about how much love they had, even during such a sorrowful time.
“The grief will remain with us, but so will the love,” they said.
Sharing Their Pain
Hafþór and Kelsey decided to share their experience on the internet. They shared photos and messages regarding Grace. They wished to make others aware of her. They also wished to assist other such people.
The couple requested privacy but appreciated the sympathy messages. Plenty of fans and followers sent love and sympathy.
Grace’s Place in the Family
Grace was the youngest child of the Björnsson family. Stormur, her big brother, was born on September 26, 2020. Stormur and Grace were much desired and loved.
Kelsey and Hafþór had attempted to conceive another child for two years. They underwent IVF treatment to conceive Grace. So, when she came along—even for a brief moment—she was extremely special to them.
A Tattoo in Her Memory
Once Grace died, Hafþór and Kelsey had tattoos so they could remember her. They both had a tiny tattoo on their wrists. It included baby footprints and Grace’s name. They posted a picture and captioned,
“Baby girl walking with us through this life ????.”
This revealed how much she was to them, and how they do not forget her each day.
Helping Others Through Their Story
Discussing baby loss is difficult. But by telling their story, Hafþór and Kelsey made others feel less isolated. Lots of people experience the same losses but never discuss it. Grace’s story started the conversation.
