Jesse Spencer is one of those actors you probably recognize on the spot, even if you’re never quite sure why. Born 12 February 1979 in Melbourne, Australia, he’s made a pretty big name for himself down under, but around the world, too. He first made people take notice as the delinquent Billy Kennedy on the Australian soap opera Neighbours in the mid-90s, sticking with that show until 2000 before a brief return in both 2005 and 2022. For viewers of Neighbours who grew up watching the programme, Billy Kennedy was the nice guy that everybody wanted to see happy, and Jesse’s acting even gained him a couple of Logie Award nominations—kind of like Australia’s version of the Emmys.
If you are a fan of medical dramas, you’d surely know him as Dr. Robert Chase in House, which aired for eight seasons, from 2004 up to 2012. Jesse struck gold with the role of Chase-one of the most prominent members in Dr. Gregory House’s diagnostic team. He was neither sidecast-he was there for the entire run of the show. Personally, I know that when it comes to intricate medical mysteries, it will be easy to fall into the addiction for the House show; however, it is in regards to such a lovable, awesome cast, including Jesse, that makes each viewer want something more out of the show.
His character, within the show, made a compelling mix of loyalty and ambition so that you just wouldn’t know enough about him.
After House, he moved on to join the team at Chicago Fire in 2012 by playing Captain Matthew Casey. If action-packed firefighter dramas are what you’re into, then that was a series you had to check out. Casey was a fan favorite, and Jesse stuck to the role until 2021. It’s funny how he transitioned from a doctor to a firefighter, the former saving lives in a rather different way than the latter. I couldn’t imagine watching him in those high-pressure situations. It is as if he were born for life-or-death roles.
Well, now he’s going into something entirely different in the Disney Plus series Last Days of the Space Age in 2024. It’s exciting where his career will go after such a great run in all these fantastic dramas in television. From Neighbours to House to Chicago Fire—and now, sci-fi? This guy never ceases to amaze us. As an individual, I’m curious to see how he will do in this shift into a futuristic setting.
As of December 2024, Jesse Spencer is 45 years and 10 months old, his estimated net worth is $8 million, and he stands at a height of 5 feet 10 inches (178 cm or 1.78 m) tall.

Net worth 2024
$8 million
As of December 2024, it’s estimated that Jesse Spencer has a net worth of about $8 million, based on information from different reliable sources.
He has made his fortunes through a wide variety of pursuits over the years, most of which can be blamed on television, film, and music. Here’s a detailed look at where Jesse Spencer gets his money from and what he probably earned from each major source of income:
1. Acting Career in Television
- Neighbours (1994-2000, 2005, 2022): Spencer had his first serious recognition playing Billy Kennedy for several years with the Australian soap opera Neighbours. Well, Australian soap salaries aren’t exactly cut-throat, and what he must have taken home during his run was a decent amount of money. Actors were being paid between $60,000 and $120,000 in the mid-90s depending on the role and popularity. His return for special episodes in 2005 and 2022 will have earned him smaller payments than later roles, however.
- House (2004-2012): This was one of the high-paying and highly regarded roles that Jesse Spencer has had in his career. As Dr. Robert Chase in the highly popular medical drama series House, Spencer appeared in most episodes since it debuted for eight seasons. When House was topping its season, Spencer would have commanded a pretty handsome sum of money in those seasons. Industry reports indicate that actors in a long-running hit show, like House, take home some $100,000 to $200,000 per episode. Based on 177 episodes of House, Spencer must have earned around $17 million to $25 million during the run of the show.
- Chicago Fire (2012-2021): After House, Spencer went on to play the role of Captain Matthew Casey for the duration of the long-running series Chicago Fire, thus further securing his stronghold on American television. By the later seasons, he was said to have raked in as much as $200,000 per episode, similar to his days on House. Over nearly a decade with Chicago Fire, Spencer would have garnered nearly or more than $25 million to $30 million from over 200 episodes.
2. Film Career Earnings
Jesse Spencer has appeared in only a few films. Some of his notable film work includes the movies Uptown Girls (2003) and Winning London (2001). In these films, he provided small supporting actors. The payscale for supporting actors appearing in mid-range films go somewhere between $100,000 to $500,000 per film, which varies mainly with both the budget as well as the role. His other income from movie appearance would have added another million to two million dollars in his net worth over the years.
3. Music Career
Jesse Spencer is also a pretty good musician. As part of a charity band called Band From TV, a cover band consisting of television actors, Jesse played bass guitar. This was really more of a charitable attempt, but in music, he proves he’s quite the performer. Though it didn’t pay too much for him personally, the exposure boosted his public profile.
4. Endorsements and Appearances
Being a star and having a steady fan following, Spencer would have received a lot of endorsement opportunities from brands and events to appear at public events. Having not done much of endorsements, his being a star opens doors for brand collaborations. Such deals can range from $100,000 to $1 million for the contract depending on the brand and scope of the endorsement. Endorsement income is likely around $500,000 to $1 million dollars.
5. Future Work and Productions
Last Days of the Space Age (2024): He has been announced to appear in a Disney Plus seriescalled Last Days of the Space Age. The sum that Spencer earns under this production isn’t known, but Disney Plus pays top dollar for all lead actors in its original series. Established actors for a show like Disney Plus can require in the range of $200,000 to $500,000 per episode. With a multi-episode series that kind of, Spencer would earn a million to three million for this alone.
