Early Life and Family
Sydel Curry was born on October 20, 1994, to Dell Curry and Sonya Curry. She grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina, with her two older brothers, Stephen and Seth. The Curry family is very close. Her father, Dell, had a long career in the NBA. Her mother, Sonya, played college volleyball and later opened her own school. Stephen and Seth both played professional basketball.
Even with all those sports swirling around the Curry household, all three children forged their own way. Stephen set his sights on the NBA. Seth did the same. Sydel opted for volleyball. Her parents were all-in.

Volleyball Career
Sydel first played volleyball at Charlotte Christian School. She played the position of a setter. She also became a team captain and earned many honors, including all-state and all-conference awards. It wasn’t hard to notice her talent.
She attended Elon University after high school and remained active in volleyball. She played the game energetically and skilfully. During her time there, she received accolades such as being named Team MVP and making the NCCSIA First Team All-State in 2016. Her teammates looked up to her leadership and spirit.
But her career took a tough turn: Sydel struggled with injuries and, in 2017, her college volleyball career came to an unexpected halt. It was painful for her, but she remained strong, focusing on her future.
She graduated with a psychology major, which has always been close to her heart.
Finding Her Own Identity
Growing up with famous brothers wasn’t always easy. Most people knew her as no more than “Stephen Curry’s sister.” Sydel has spoken freely about this struggle. She worked hard to build her name and show the world who she really was. She used her experiences to help others who are similarly often overshadowed or overlooked.
Marriage and Children
In September 2018, Sydel married the professional basketball player Damion Lee; Stephen and Seth were groomsmen at their wedding. Ayesha Curry, Stephen’s wife, was the matron of honor. As Sydel often says, Ayesha feels like the sister she never had.

Sydel and Damion have a growing family. The first child, Daxon Wardell-Xavier Lee, was born in November 2021. They have welcomed more children since then, including one through IVF. She does not hesitate to share her mom’s moments and often speaks about the joys and struggles of motherhood.

Mental Health Advocacy
One of Sydel’s most powerful passions is in mental health. She views emotional well-being as no different from physical health. She has mentioned anxiety, pressure, and the need to ask for help. Her openness has galvanized many individuals. She encourages others to speak openly and take care of themselves.
