Selina Liu was born on August 11, 2008. She is the second oldest of five children. Her older sister is Alysa Liu, and she has three younger brothers—Joshua, Justin, and Julia. The three youngest are triplets.
All five of the children were conceived by in vitro fertilization (IVF). They were carried by surrogates and had anonymous egg donors. Though their biological mother is unknown, there is one woman named Yan “Mary” Qingxin who is a prominent figure in their lives. She is their guardian and serves as their mother figure.
Her father, Arthur Liu, is a lawyer. Arthur Liu emigrated from Sichuan, China to the United States during the 1990s. Arthur Liu emigrated to the United States following his participation in the Tiananmen Square demonstrations of 1989. Arthur worked incredibly hard to provide Alysa Liu with a superior way of life.
