After high school, she went to American University in Washington, D.C., where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in government. Judy then decided to study law and earned her Juris Doctor degree from New York Law School in 1965.
Judy Sheindlin started her career as a prosecutor in New York City. She worked hard and was very dedicated to her job. In 1982, Mayor Ed Koch noticed her efforts and appointed her as a judge in family court. Judy became known for being tough and assertive, which helped her earn a promotion in 1986 to supervising judge in the Manhattan division of family court.
