Mike Hosmer was a firefighter for many years in Miami, Florida. Some accounts claim he was a police officer, but most account that he spent much of his career in fire work. He was assigned to Fire Station 9, which is located in Liberty City and is one of the busiest fire stations in the country.
He worked 48-hour shifts, assisting individuals and fighting fires. But even after those long hours, he still found time for his son. He would go directly from work to the baseball field. He wanted to provide Eric with every opportunity for success.
Meeting Ileana
Mike’s wife, Ileana, met him in 1979 at Coral Gables Hospital. Ileana was employed there as a nurse. Ileana was born in Cuba and immigrated to the U.S. when she was seven years old. She and her family departed Cuba to escape the government of Fidel Castro.
Mike married Ileana in 1986. They had two sons, Mike Jr. and Eric.

Their first child, Mike Hosmer Jr., was born in 1985. He was also a talented baseball player and received a scholarship to Florida State University. But he did not play professionally. He became a stockbroker in Miami instead. In 2017, he married Nicole Suess. The couple now have two daughters.
